According to Hitwise, a new first: Facebook beat Google in visits between March 7th and March 13th, making it the week’s most visited website in the US. Facebook accounted for 7.07% of all web traffic for the week, while Google accounted for 7.03%. Only a year ago Facebook accounted for around 2% of U.S. web traffic.
Facebook’s popularity might be due in part to its incorporation and integration with other social sites such as Twitter and YouTube. People can now search the web via recommendations from friends on Facebook rather than through Google.
